The long cherished dream of ‘Vidyaposhaka’ late
Vutukuri Ramayya Sreshti, the philanthropist par excellence, was
realized with the birth ofVRS
College
on 02.07.1951. The College was inaugurated by Dr. Bezawada Gopal
Reddy, the then Minister of Finance of Composite Madras
State. It offered Intermediate course to begin with. It was upgraded
in 1953 as Degree
College
and B.A. and B.Com. Courses were introduced. In 1958 B.Sc. course
was introduced in all disciplines including Geology. The College was
granted permanent affiliation by Andhra
University
in 1962. In 1962, Late Jagarlamudi Sivaram Prasad, a great
benefactor, magnanimously donated Rs. One lakh from Yarlagadda
Ranganayakulu Charities Karamchedu, for strengthening the finances
of the College. Then, the College was renamed as Vutukuri
Ramayya Sreshti and Yarlagadda
Ranganayakulu
Naidu
College.
The period of Dr. Solasa
Satyanarayana as President, Sri Jagarlamudi Sivaram Prasad as
Secretary and Correspondent and Sri Polavarapu Jagadeswara Rao as
Principal was said to be a golden era in the annals of the College.
During their tenure, the College was strengthened in every sphere in
form of developing Infrastructure and introducing various
innovative courses. During this period, the strength of the
faculty and students has increased
substantially.
The
College has completed 50 eventful years in the service of
higher ducation and has successfully conducted Silver Jubilee in
1977 and the Golden Jubilee Celebrations in the year 2001.
Throughout, the students of the College have been performing
extremely well and on several occasions bagged the top ranks in the
University and Intermediate Examinations. The College has produced
thousands of graduates and post graduates who are well settled in
several walks of life serving Nationally and Internationally, some
in the cutting edge fields like I T, Management, Academics, bringing
laurels to their Alma Mater. The College has been serving to the
best of its abilities to continue in the path of providing quality
education in this part of Andhra
Pradesh.
