Chirala which is located 3k.m away from
Bay of Bengal and is one of the important
tourist places in prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh. A Large number of oil and
allied industrial units have been setup in and around chirala of
which the worth mentioning is CAPOL. These units are working as
there has been greater potentiality for the produce of cotton in
this area. These companies necessarily require the service of oil
technologist / chemists to operate the units particularly the oils
and fats industries. The need for trained and skilled oil
technologists and chemists is found
imminent.
With the permission of Andhra University the management had
started two year semester pattern oil technology course in the
college from the academic year 1980-81. it is a premier department
and is the department offering oils and fats course in south
India. the course B.Sc Tech oils, soaps
and detergents affiliated to Andhra University was offered to B.Sc M.P.C
graduates and was familiar as P.G course in oil technology in south
India.
In the year 1984 two
year programme got, restructured into three year annual pattern
course like U.I.C.T (Mumbai), LIT (Nagpur), HBTI (Kanpur).so far 20 batches of B.Sc
Tech students have left the college and joined in reputed companies
occupying fairly senior positions.
In tune with latest changes and requirements a P.G course
M.Sc (oils & fats) affiliated to Acharya Nagarjuna University of
existing B.Sc(Tech) oil tech course have been introduced in
2000-’01.
