The
long cherished dream of ‘Vidyaposhaka’ late Vutukuri Ramayya
Sreshti, the philanthropist par excellence, was realized with
the birth ofVRS
College
on 02.07.1951. The College was inaugurated by Dr. Bezawada
Gopal Reddy, the then Minister of Finance of Composite
Madras
State. It offered Intermediate course to begin with. It was
upgraded in 1953 as Degree
College
and B.A. and B.Com. Courses were introduced. In 1958 B.Sc.
course was introduced in all disciplines including Geology.
The College was granted permanent affiliation by Andhra
University
in 1962. In 1962, Late Jagarlamudi Sivaram Prasad, a great
benefactor, magnanimously donated Rs. One lakh from Yarlagadda
Ranganayakulu Charities Karamchedu, for strengthening the
finances of the College. Then, the College was renamed
as Vutukuri Ramayya Sreshti and Yarlagadda
Ranganayakulu
