Profile: This
Department is one of the very few Under Graduate Departments
of Geology under the erstwhile Andhra University Area and the
oldest one in the Acharya Nagarjuna University Area.
This Department
was established in 1958 offering B.Sc. in Geology. The
Department,
founded by Sri
D M Satyanarayana M.Sc., had the following
distinguished members on its faculty: Sri N.P. Subrahmanyam,
M.Sc., Sri P.V.L. Narasimharao, M.Sc., Dr. Y. Srihari, Ph.D.,
an alumnus of this department, who went on to become the
principal of the College, Sri T. Venkateswarlu, M.Sc., Dr. J.
Nageswara Rao, Ph.D., another alumnus of this department and
who later became a member of Department of Geology of Andhra
University, Dr. J. V. Subba Rao, Ph.D., also an alumnus of
this department, Dr. M. Kalesha, Ph.D. another alumnus of this
department.
Now the department, headed by Sri K.V.Subbaiah, M. Sc.,
who published a paper and attended a work shop atTrivandrum, and
is acting as the
Chairman of Board
of Under Graduate Studies in Geology of Acharya Nagarjuna
University, has Sri J. Venkateswarlu, M.Sc., Sri. R. Mohan
Rao, M.Sc., a Fellow of Geological Society, an author of
threee books titled "Hydrogeology" in English,
"Purajivasastram" in Telugu (Palaeontology), "Ritusamhara
vyakhya" in Sanskrit, Sri K. Pothuraju, M. Sc., with 3 years
of research experience on Krishna Godavari Delta Project
(1976-79), is a specialist in Sedimentary Petrology, worked as
Programme Officer of National Adult Eduction Programme,
(1982-84), Dr. P. Venkateswarlu, M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D., now on
deputation at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University,
Hyderabad, published four papers and presented 2 papers at
U.S.A., Sri D. Nageswara Rao, M. Sc., M. Phil., who is on long
leave and Sri Y. Ranganayakulu, M. Sc. as members on its
faculty.
The equipment in the department includes Polarising
Microscopes-20 N0.'s, pH Test kit, Salinity Meter,
Conductivity Bridge, D.O. Kit, D.O. Meter, Resistivity Meter,
Over Head Projector, Electronic Digital Top Pan Balance,
Plastic Crystal Models, Wooden St. geology models, samples of
minerals, rocks, fossils, geomorphological models, gem set,
clino meter, Compass, Survey equipment
etc.
